An avatar was the digital representation of a user in PlayStation Home. Avatars could be chosen from a selection of default options, and were customisable in body and clothing. The created avatar was then the user's means of travel and communication inside Home.

Body[]

When first accessing Home, users were given a blank avatar which they could customise, or alternatively they could choose from one of the several preset avatars available. A variety of features could be customised including gender, skin tone, hair, body shape and facial structure.

The user had the option to customise:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Gender
  • Facial structure
  • Hair (Including styles and colour)
  • Makeup

Clothing[]

Once an avatar had been created, clothing could be chosen from a set of standard items providing the user with the opportunity to make their avatar unique. Users could purchase additional clothing from stores all over the Home world, or unlock items as a reward from many of Home's built-in activities and mini-games, as well as from Home reward-supported PlayStation 3 full games.

Users could access their wardrobe from the menu at any time and location, except when in another user's personal apartment, and had the ability to save up to nine versions of their avatar for quick access at any time.

There were many limited pieces of clothing that were released with timed events, as well as outfits based on game characters, such as Nathan Drake from Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and Haruka Amami from The Idolmaster SP (As a set of four items, awarded for winning each of the mini-games in the Namco Arcade Center).

Clothing was grouped by:

  • Head
  • Hands
  • Torso
  • Legs
  • Feet
  • Jewelry/Jewellery
  • Accessories (Glasses and miscellaneous items such as headphones)
  • Outfits (Full costumes of game characters etc.)

Emotes[]

Emotes were gestures a user could perform with thier avatar, waving for example.

Inventory[]

The inventory allowed users to carry certain items on their avatar. One such item was the bubble machine which all users got as standard. Each player could place one anywhere they wanted to produce bubbles, if another was placed the first would disappear.
